HELP, WITH AIR INTAKE

hey guys i am interested in putting an air intake on my 4.4, does anyone have any recommendation on what kind of intake i should get, also is there really a major difference in the performance with an intake.

thanks

Afe is a good one to start or you can go right up and get an dinan which is expensive. But are you gonna reprogram to take full advantage of the intake? There were previous discussions on this matter.

to reprogram the computer that usually also costs a lot right?
thanks for the reply

yeah that costs more money. I am not exactly how sure or what the process is but you usually have to go to a DYNO place that can do that to tweek cars and such. the BMW filter does do a great job with the CAI so unless your gonna work on the exhaust aswell as the CAI and reprogram to take full advantage of everything its not really worth too much of the wild. But these were all from previous post readings. M5James knows alot more on this topic and seems to explain it pretty well in posts.

If you think of your engine as a balanced system, with intake air, combustion, and exhaust, then trying to improve one of those without touching the others will have next to no effect. The X5 already has a cold air intake, and the BMW air filter is not restrictive. What you will get out of an aftermarket air intake is usually increased intake noise, and some under hood jewelry. Some like that, and if that is the goal then that is great, but don't expect any hp increase or mileage changes.

If you modify the engine mechanically for more power, then a modified air intake and exhaust has some potential benefit. Applying a tune (software) will have very little effect, since the engine is naturally aspirated.
