Accident info needed

We got rear ended yesterday and the force actuated a mechanism in the headrests that pushed the soft part of the headrest forward, never seen this before, does anyone know how much force (how hard you need to be hit) to actuate these...( car is a 09 528)...
We got hit while stopped at a light by an relatively new F250 Ford P/U, quite a bang...and although there doesn't look like much damage I'm sure that there is damage to the shock mech behind the bumpers, oh and someone told me those headrest are $1000 each to replace !!!!
Thanks Daniel
Daniel ( ps, do our 06 X5's have this?)

Probably shouldn't be in the E53 forum, rather the Other BMWs forum.

Crash activated headrests came out in 2007 on certain models, including the X5. They are triggered by the airbag controller. Your 2006 E53 will not have them.

Not sure you need to replace the headrest, possibly just the pyro charge that moves the headrest forward. That is how they are designed, anyway. Sufficient impact will no doubt require replacement, but a minor impact shouldn't.

I was wondering when they were going to do this, my 03 W211 has that.
