Help!
I have a 2001 X5 4.4. I cannot get my steering wheel to tilt up or down. It will telescope in and out but when I try to adjust up or down, sounds like the motor inside is running but does not move up or down -- by the way -- seats adjust fine. By the way -- when turning off the car -- the tilt motor keeps running -- and if hit adjuster it stops.
Also have the DSC & ABS light and no speedometer. Car runs fine. Have changed ABS speed sensors but am I missing something in adjustment or clearing a code? Thanks in advance for any help with either or both items!http://s1.bimmerfest.com/forums/images/smilies/iono.gif |
Ok. Let's start.
ABS/DSC and no speedometer, gas gaguge inaccurate. That means that ABS/DSC Module is faulty. Next, If the motor keeps running that means there is long metal that does turning. It can be Messed up. |
DSC and ABS lights can often be caused by a wheel speed sensor, and one of those sensors (Left Rear) also drives the speedometer. If you replaced the sensors (all 4?) how do you know the one in the LR isn't bad, or that the wiring isn't faulty?
Apart from the sensors, any of the components involved in the ABS or traction control systems can cause the fault. What do the codes say? |
I have the opasit problem. min gos un and down but not out. I this it is the swich is the poblem.

I have the same steering wheel problem. Any help would be appreciated. It seems like the motor is fine but something isnt catching. Almost like it isnt aligned correctly or a gear fell off.

maybe you need a tool to reset your airbag.

Like I sayed, if motor is running and wheel not moving, There is Long Metal that seats on both ends and does the turning, sometimes that get's cought in the wrong way and break theeth. Check it. You don't have to take off steering wheel, Just take off plastics around it and down side of the dash (few screws) and you go from there.
