Dead battery and mysterious computer problem

A few months ago I purchased a new battery from the dealer on my 2006 X5. Lately my battery has been dying again. After charging I cannot change the clock, miles or any settings. Anyone have this problem or a solution?

I also want to add that the fuel gauge is not working and I can barely see the BC display.

I have the 06 also. 4.4 At about 120000 mi I had mysterious electronic fault issues and dying battery situations. I replaced the battery (Pepboys) and still had some faults and crazy transmission functions. Took it to the dealer long story short replaced the alternator. 100000 more miles and no malfunctions.

I was told that the alternator regulator had also overcharged which can cause computer faults.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I disconnected the battery for about 15 minutes and reconnected and the issue was resolved. I will have the alternator checked very soon.

The battery is in the trunk. You will have to remove this weird round looking thing above the batter. I didn't take pictures the last time. It's pretty simple to complete. After disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so everything came back to normal. I did not replace the alternator as of yet. I believe my problem is more computer related. My X5 does not fully go to sleep at the end of the night which drains the battery after 24 hours or more.

thanks Sum!

I will probably change the battery first, and I was told there is a faulty resistor in the car, that will turn on the air condition in the car, that is what drains the battery. I'm not sure what is the exact part number:dunno:, there are people have the same problem and got this fix with battery first, and still drains the battery

yet, after the faulty "resistor" was changed, its back to normal again.

i will update this post as i go through whatever changes i've made.

thanks again!!

hey battery drain thing is making me more curious. I have a few questions just trying to see if my battery is falling into that category. So i display my bat voltage on the dash using test #9 my voltages when just sitting key in acc or on position = 12.2v
then when driving voltage never goes over 14.0v. this is with everything in the car off or on. I have noticed some days it triggers the airbag light , saying passanger side off, Kind of scares some of my riders as it doesnt do it everyday. should my voltages be higher?
