E53 4.4i intake dilema

I'm fairly new on this forum, so please take it easy one me on mods or what not. :D Anyhow, I am thinking about replacing the OEM filter with the K&N replacement. Although it only yields minimal hp, in addition to let the engine breath a little easier, I've had pretty good experience with them with no issues or what so ever. During my search to explore other options other than K&N, I've come across AFE intake system, which, consists of a cone shape filter with heat shieds, and their version of the intake elbow. I am just curious on the effectiveness of the this particular system so the $200+ isn't just thrown away from AFE's marketing. Please share your thoughts and input. Should I stick with the K&N replacement filter or AFE system? Thanks very much...

Afe or any other intake yields nothing but looks and a bit more noise. It will do nothing for power. I would personally stick with oem air filters that are not oiled. Those can cause problems for the MAF.

Stick with OE unless you just want to change the look under the hood. No hp or fuel efficiency gain with either the AFE or a K&N filter. Some hp loss if you defeat the factory cold air intake with anything that draws air from under the hood.
