"Click" in the steering wheel?
Hi all,
I've been chasing this steering click for a while now. It is a click you feel, not hear, but it is very distinct. Dealer told me my thrust arm bushings needed replacement, I did it and they helped about 90% (but not entirely gone). Now it's back with a vengeance less than 10k miles later. I checked my lca bushings and end links, they didn't seem loose and the bushings weren't ripped (but they are original at 100k miles). I searches and some people replaced steering column bushings but even that apparently doesn't solve the issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Cyrus |
Checking in this thread with the same problem.
Thrust arm bushings have been replaced around 30k miles ago and sway bar endlinks have been replaced less than 20k miles ago. The click started happening after a Tire Rack Street Survival School for me so something may have loosened up; however, I don't know what part is loose as the steering is still tight. |
Click too
Yes, I have a click too.... It's the last annoying thing I need to take care of. The suspension parts have been replaced... faint, but it is still there???

Any updates? Has anyone experienced this problem and determined a fix?

The other thread said a new steering rack would fix it.
It's a forget 'bout it situation for me if that needs to be replaced. It does make sense that broke as I felt it first click when doing a Tire Rack Street Survival course. Figure 8's and skid pads don't mix with the X5. |
If all front suspension components are in perfect shape, the steering rack is the next thing to look at. Once it gets worn, the clicks/noises will propagate to the steering wheel. It can be easily reconditioned too.
