DSC, Brake and ABS Lights, Suspension inactive

So I am having a problem with my 2005 X54.8is and little confused as to how to proceed. So here's the deal, I was towing my boat up to the lake a few weeks ago, when I stopped to pay the toll I had the 3 lights go on, the DSC, BRAKE and then the ABS. as well as the suspension inactive I pulled over shut the care off fo like 5 minutes then resarted, everything went off. But then came back on the next day.
So i brought it in for an oil change at a local indy guy down the street, he changed the oil and came up with these codes,

60AF run flat
5E28 WHEEL SPEED FRONT LEFT
5E52 WHEEL SPEED FRONT RIGHT
5F3A TRANSFER CASE MALFUNCTION-INTERNAL
5DD0 CONTROLE MODULE OVERVOLTAGE
5EB1 STEERING ANGLE SENSOR

So he said it's probably just the wheel sensors and replaced both front wheel sensors, but the same lights on, So my concern is that he wants to just go down the list and replace everything that he sees on the list and this couild get very very costly.

I did disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes, everything came back on.
I also turned the wheel all the was to the left and then to the right as well. checked all the fuses etc.....

Any suggestions on how to proceed? or just throw in the towell and let the dealer have at it?

When I had those three lights on it was the steering sensor, and I see that is up with an error message as well. Its not that expensive but will need recoding again if you have one fitted.

Thanks Ian, my question is, did you replace it? or is it a dealer installed part, I am wondering if I could intstall it them drive it to the dealer ?

I installed it myself, its no problem if you dont mind working upside down. I didnt have any transfer case faults up though, but you can still drive the car after replacement but the ABS etc will be inactive

I bet you need a new battery, have you had it checked?

Ok well after some diagnostics today we have figured out that it is actually the Transfer case Actuator that has gone bad, (the plastic gear is stripped) bmw part # 27 10 7 566 296 so looks like I will be replacing that as soon as I can find one that's in stock someplace...

So just an update, I got the transfer case actuator from a BMW Dealer in Indiana, it was 630.00 compared to 900.00 + from the local dealer, Installed it and fingers crossed turned the key and all lights are off, I didnt run the GT-1 on it, Is that something I should do to clear that code out of there ? the lights have been off so wasnt to sure if it was something that had to be done. I also put my 2 original front wheel speed sensor back, so I have 2 new speed sensors I will sell for $50.00 ea/ just to get rid of them.

Isn't there a classification resistor to replace at the same time as the actuator motor, and a registration procedure for the new resistor? All to calibrate the actuator motor to your actual clutch packs?

shamrock99 09-27-2011 01:17 PM

Hi, I didn't see the resistor pack anyplace, although i did read that somplace on here. I also saw that someone pretty much did the same as me, put it in and ran with it, It's going down to the dealer at the end of the month, I will have them run the gt-1 on it at that time to see if any codes come up

JCL 09-27-2011 01:19 PM

It isn't a code that they would see, it is a registration procedure required (via GT1) so that you don't wear out your transfer case prematurely from having incorrect clutch pressures.
