i'm installing a navigation system and there is a spark when connecting the power to the navigation device. is this normal? i'm afraid it might burn.

How exactly do you power up your navigation system, that you get a spark? I assume it is not a button. If you power it up by crossing wires, you may get a spark due to the cold (as in "not-soldered") loose contact. You could _at least_ get the circuit fused, if not running a button or even relay.
