Thinking out loud, changing the rack would have meant a fluid change anyway, and I would be here telling you need a new rack! Wonder how many others changed a whole rack when a fluid change was all that was needed?

I used the popular but simple turkey baster method - just extract as much fluid from the reservoir as you can using a turkey baster and refill with new ATF Dexron III fluid. After driving for a few miles and making a few lock to lock turns, repeat the process to extract more old fluid and refill with new. I did it 7 times and now I have about 90% new fluid.

There are several methods on how to Flush Power Steering fluid. Doug Vetter has a nice write up on the Z3 power steering flush. It is the same concept just slightly different parts and locations on the X5. HERE is a link to his write up.

In the write up he references a "gear oil pump", this is another name for a fluid extractor. If you need one I would suggest our Schwaben 9.0 Liter Manual Fluid Extractor.

I changed the fluid and did not change the problem.
here is how I have done:
.
1) lift vehicule
2) remove wheel left and dust covers

3) 22 key needed to unbolt the fluid pipe.

4) revisser lorsque cela ne coule plus et tout nettoyer avec un nettoyant moteur car l'huile a coulé pas mal a coté.
5) remplissage avec l'huile indiquée sur le bouchon. Pour ma part achetée chez bmw pour limiter la source d'erreur.

Finaly

Bmw told me they have detected a engin mount failure
I will check it and do it myself.

I used this method, but instead of driving while making lock to lock turns, I floor jacked the front end off the ground so the wheels where in the air for all the lock to lock. This makes the process much quicker and consumes less fuel.
