Free door handle fix
I followed this diy and it was very informative.
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...andle-fix.html However I have a spin on it that allows you to not have to buy a new carrier. My carrier was broken right where the spring is. The metal hinge was broken in half. My fix? I retucked the spring and aligned everything correctly. (just used a flathead screwdriver to push the spring down and pushed the hinge together). Once assembled I secured with a zip tie to keep everything together. Actualy added a second zip tie just in case. When that was done I reassembled and it actually worked! Free door handle fix diy! |
I have 3 cable ties holding together the drivers door catch in my X5, 6 months so far, so good. Mine broke at the catch that holds the end of the wire cable. One side of the split hook broke off. I have about 100 ties left in the packet, so whilst not a permanent fix, should I need to, I can repair it again.

Photo of the repair?
Did you take a photo of the zip tie repair. I'd like to see exactly where the tie goes.
Any way to use JB Weld to repair the broken piece? |
I don't think JB would hold it together. I used tie wire (i'm a concrete guy and we have tons of it :lmao: ) and its working great so far. I thought I would try it for a while before I ordered the new carrier.

The passenger side carrier quit working on me; when I inspected the old one after it was replaced, I sure couldn't find any breaks anywhere. I was all set to use it as a guinea pig to try some aluminum welding rod to fix it. Kinda disappointing.
