Taking apart guage cluster - got questions

I'm trying to fix my dead info center pixels and have the gauge cluster torn apart to the point of drilling the face to gain access to the screws. Has anyone removed the face WITHOUT drilling?

Also, has anyone removed the needles and the actual black "face"? Is there any issues with popping off the needles?
