I had some time to kill the other day and thought i would try polishing the lens on my headlights. Tried duragloss 681 lens polish and didnt work. I saw someone using sandpaper on youtube and thought i would try it. I used wet dry 2000 grit with a spray water bottle. Found out i had to continuously spray off what i was sanding off, sanding horizontally. Took a while but finally got it where there was only a very slight haze when dried. Then i got the duragloss and started polishing again. The directions say to let the polish haze over before buffing. That didnt work If i applied the polish in small areas and continued buffing it would shine up. Heres a pic to show the difference. If you look around the edges you can see how the lens used to look. Didnt have any protective tape so didnt get close to the paint. I thought the haze was on the iside also. Ill go back later and do the edges.

btmed - your headlight looks good. How bad was it before you started?

My headlights aren't just oxidized or hazy. The haze is pretty heavy in appearance and has a rough texture. I spent just a short time to see if a quick sanding or rubbing compound would work, but no quick gratification.

If your headlights were hazed to the point that they attained a rough texture, I might try your method.

If you look at the pic you still see the haze on the bottom and right edge. It was that bad all over the lens. It did take some time sanding about a 3 inch area across at a time. Continuous rinsing really made a difference. Mine also had a rough texture. I might have spent an hour on it and still need to do the edges.
