Punting on parasitic leak - workaround ideas?
 

Well, I've given up trying to find the massive parasitic leak in my 03 4.4i. TO quickly recap, I've found a massive, 1.4 amp(!) current flow across the connectors of Fuse #75 in the right rear fuse box, which (naturally) causes the battery to go dead in about two days. I've disconnected every component that according to the wiring diagram Fuse #75 is designed to protect - the nav/stereo unit in the dash, the nav DVD drive in the left rear, the CD changer also in the left rear, and both DVD display screens in the backs of the headlights. None had any impact on the current leak. I've also tested to confirm there are no other sources of leaks anywhere else in the car, so no problem with the final stage resistor or any of the other usual culprits.

I've contacted three local mechanics, including two BMW specialists, and none of them were very excited about digging through the car's wiring harness to track down this leak. This sounds very expensive, anyway. So, I'd like to see about rigging something up that either makes it very easy to open the circuit controlled by Fuse # 75 (I'm currently pulling the fuse every night, which is getting to be a pain), or automatically shuts it off. A mechanic suggested installing a relay across the leads of the fuse, but I don't understand how this would work, and I didn't want to take up his time explaining it to me. So, I'm looking for someone on this board with some electronic know-how to suggest a viable work-around to allow me to easily or automatically shut off the parasitic current leak when the car isn't being driven. Please be as detailed as you can, because this isn't my main area of expertise. Of course, if anyone has any ideas as to how to fix the leak, I'm open to any suggestions! Thanks.

Well, I located the remote ipod unit my wife had installed a little over a year ago, disconnected it, but unfortunately, this also had no impact on the leak. So, short of tearing through the wiring harness (which I have to interest in doing), I'm still looking for a way to shut off the current running through fuse #75's circuit when the key is out of the ignition. Any ideas?????

do you have anything plugged into the any of the cigarette lighters? I know that can draw even if it is a phone charger, GPS, etc. not even charging anything.
