Replacing Steering Wheel Trim?

Looking to replace the black trim around the wheel on my 05' 4.8is. Mine is peeling away and I would just like to replace it. Any guidance would be great, search did not return anything for the E53.

How easy is this to install?

It's fairly easy, but go slow and remember to disconnect the battery first. HERE is a great DIY from a UK car forum which lots of photos explaining the process.

ECS ?

Is the replacement part the same material as original (which will peel)? I need to do this also.

The part found here is a genuine BMW part (original equipment). To help prolong the finish of the part I suggest using non solvent based cleaning products.

So the process is exactly the same for an e46 as it is the e53? Or very similar to the point where's it's "dummy proof"?

It's very similar for most BMW steering wheels. Looking at the E53 diagram it is similar enough that the guide posted should be ample to get you threw the processes. Nothing on cars is "dummy proof" but this is fairly easy. Just double check all your connections as your working, if you are worried about where things go multi colored markers can help remind you where they where removed from since it will be hidden by the air bag cover.

This retrofit explains how to put in a heated steering wheel, but the removal process of the entire steering wheel is exactly what yours will be
