2005 X5 4.4 White Smoke
Hello All!
New to the forum and BMW. My wife's 05 has been great with the exception of the following issue. A while back I started noticing a white smoke after sitting idling for a few minutes at traffic lights, etc. I found this forum and all of the great advice and quickly found the passenger side CCV torn. I replaced both sides as a precaution and inspected the hoses as well. I have run two tanks of gas through the car along with injection cleaner but still have the smoke. Please help! Rob |

you can remove the intake hose from the throttle housing to look inside the manifold for oil which can remain in there for a long time after replacing the ccv .

Wait what? I have the same problem but what do i need to do to fix it? Can it be the oil separator valve? and whats CCV?

amacman - I wasn't sure if I was just being impatient about it clearing out or if something else was going on? I actually saw a post (might have been one of yours) with that same pic and I did look. I still have oil in there, I just didn't think it was enough to sustain the problem? When I picked up my parts from the dealer they also mentioned that they have a procedure and equipment to clean up after this problem....makes sense!
pezho485 - I found with my vehicle (N62 engine) it does not have the dreaded oil separator valve that many have problems with. The crankcase vent valves (ccv) seem to fail quite a bit and is a classic cause for the white smoke. They are inexpensive and very easy to change. My issue was an obvious tear but I was puzzled as to why the change didn't seem to help. Looks like I need to do a little cleaning or be more patient! I will post some pictures later today to better illustrate for you or you can search for "white smoke" as I did and you will find all kinds of great guidance! Great place to learn! |
Where did you get the CCV from and yeah post up some pics please!
Im also a N62. |
Purchased from my local dealer and I will post pics later today.
