Reprogram X5 settings
 

I searched...I found several threads - they said go to the dealer - at least the ones I read thru.

However, I know I've seen on the web (possibly was in X5world - which is now here?) instructions as to how to get in and change many of the settings
auto lock
beep on unlock
beep on lock
lights flash on lock
lights flash on unlock
etc
etc

I'm now close to ending my extended coverage and figured its finally about time I disabled the very annoying beep on unlock (why advertise I'm unlocking my car?) even when using the key (does it for the remote too). Had to park outside for a few days and while I don't lock in my garage, I did when on the street. My neighbors weren't too happy with my car beeping every morning as I unlocked it - and neither was I.

I *know* I can change that - but I'm not going to go to the dealer to pay to have it done, when I can do it myself.....
I used to have the forum printed out from that other site, but I can't locate the hardcopy now....

So - finally my request for help - can someone provide/point me to the right thread where I can attempt this myself? (pls no - you need to go to the dealer)

Well, one way to disable it is to pull the fuse in the trunk.. except you wont have a working alarm.

There was one DIY on how disable it somehow, but i cant recall it.

The other way is to have someone reprogram the settings.

X5World is now xoutpost. Thanks to BMW lawyers. Same info is here, the site just has a new name.

The alarm settings you list are done by the dealer. Sorry about that. The form that is posted here is for key programming, with all of the various options listed. That form is then handed to your dealer, who does the programming.

If you don't want to go to the dealer, you need an independent mechanic (or a hobbyist) with the GT1 programmer.

Or one of the other scanners that cover some of the same functions. I bought one and activated the "flash on unlock" feature on mine and have also used it for fault-finding lots of times on my X5 & my wife's E46. Well worth investing in one IMO.

Just curious. Do you know of a way to do this without using a GT1 tool?

I think there are other tools that could accomplish the same. However, sorry, I don't know which ones they would be.

If you do some searches, you could probably find the people here that use them and ask.

Most BMW specific independent shops will have a Diagnos Autologic, which will program all of these features as well (including the infamous windows open/close via the remote feature).
