help with x5 handling

recently I put a 22 inch rims on my X went for a test run and noticed that front wheels were shaking a lot when ever I go over 70 miles..went back and did a wheel alignment and the problem still hasn't gone away. they balance the wheels and did the alignments so I am thinking its the tire rods that are bad. what do you guys think?

If the vibration only appeared after installing the new wheels/tires, I'd suspect them, not the "tire rods". Take it back to the tire store and ask them to put it on a frame lift with the wheels free. Have them start it and spin up the wheels with the motor running and see if the problem appears. I'd bet you have an out-of-round or a balance issue.

Make sure:
- your new wheels center-bore is for E53 X5 (72.5mm)
- your wheels are balanced.

Some aftermarket wheels are not hub-centric for BMW E53 X5. for example if you decide to get E70 wheels (74.1mm CB) you'll get crazy shimmy at different speeds, and it put stress on your whell lugs. get the wheels checked.

Good point on the hub centric issue.

Can you rotate the wheels front to back and see if the vibration changes?

Also recognize that you can balance a square wheel, but that doesn't make it round.

And since larger heavier wheels put more load on the suspension, it isn't just a case of balance vs suspension components (control arms, tension struts, sway bar ends, etc). Worn suspension components that were OK with smaller lighter wheels can show their age with larger heavier wheels that set up a problem. In that case it is the wheel, plus the suspension component, that you need to fix.

This is the best wheel balancer there is.....Hunter GSP9700 Wheel vibration Control System solves wheel vibration and tire pull problems that balancers and aligners can't fix

Road force balancing is the ONLY way to go!
