Poor mileage
I did a tune up expecting that my mileage would go up. ( spark plugs air and fuel filter
Maf cleaning fuel pump and injector .....) and my mpg still the same. Im doing 9 -- 12.7 mpg with a lot of stop and go and after every speed bump i smash the gaz pedal to feel the v8 . 4.4 2001 ( all the time in s mode) what do u think |
Sounds about right to me:thumbup:

Bmw says 17 19????i forgot to say that i drive uphill everyday and rarely on the freeway
|
in my 4.8 2005 I get average 18 miles. But due to your aggressive driving plus going up to hill everyday I think calculation is right

The reason I am asking is I am getting 15.2 mpg on my 2006 X5 4.8is with 40,000 miles. Neither I smash the gas pedal nor any hard acceleration. Most of the driving is at 65 mph if I do more street driving it drops to low 14 mpg very quickly. I constantly get around 320 miles and it takes about 21gallons to fill it all the way back up. (320 miles / 21gallons = 15.2mpg) Thanks, Kevin |

I would say , you stop firmly and accelerate little harder than me. My RPMs when I accelerate wont go more than "3" I think, maybe that is the reason |
Sounds right, especially under those driving conditions. I'd take it out of sport mode for a week to lower those RPMs. Also check your tire pressure to be sure it's where it needs to be. People often overlook the simple stuff.
Are you running mid grade fuel? 87 octane burns faster, I run 89 in both of my BMWs and get no knock and predictable mileage. Also, consider a transmission filter/fluid swap. Be sure a competent person or shop does it, and hopefully they have done it before. I used a BG machine to do my exchange, and the OEM "lifetime" fluid was toast. I just did mine on my 01' 740il and it feels more solid. With you driving on hills I would do this for sure. I think the filter kit is about $80 and then you'll need Valvoline Maxlife x Xqts. Only use OEM filter. (FILTRAN) Im not sure how many the X5 holds, as Ive yet to swap the transmission fluid, but it's next on my list. Try to keep your foot out of it, even though it's fun. |
