New winter tire setup just came in!
I have a 2006 E53 4.8is in Black. I will have pictures up this week after I detail it. I decided to go with the 275/40R-20 Bridgestone Blizzak w/ 20x9 Bremmer Kraft BR05. Can't wait to put them on! Too bad its not even November.
http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/3946/photosgt.jpg Only took a picture of one of them. I didn't want to unwrap the rest but you get the picture. |
Now if you lived in sunny California like me, you wouldn't need those things...lol!!

Your winter rims are bigger and look nicer than my summer rims. I'm also starting to look for winter tires now that it is under 60 degrees at certain times of the day.
|
I think those are going to look great. Waiting on the pics...
|
I'm regretting not buying winter tires/rims after buying all season Conti's and inheriting a wheel shake that I've spent over $1,200 trying to get rid of....so far.

Will look great! i bet spacers may be a necessity. I run 8.5" wide style 87s (275/40/R20) around for the winter.. put 20mm spacer in the rear. Because of your flares on the 4.8is i'd do 25-30 in the rear...

I'm thinking about going with the exam same setup for my 05 4.8IS! Did you get them from tirerack?

I went with a 19x8.5" rim and 265-50-19 tire which ends up about .5" taller than stock but fits very nicely in the wheelwells of an "is" model.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2658/...0f3_z.jpg?zz=1 I sold the X5 and now this winter set-up needs to go to a new home. Tires are Pirelli Scorpion and they have 2 seasons and maybe 8-9K miles on them. Contact me via PM if interested in taking them off my hands and putting back to good winter use! |

You dont need spacers. Its for aesthetic reasons only. With the spacers it will push your wheels out so it doesn't look too sunken in the wheelwell. BTW .. Make sure you're talking about the same thing. Wheel spacers vs. Hub Ring. The Hub ring is to ensure the wheel is centered when installed. Definitely install them and make sure they're facing the proper direction. Look at them carefully and you'll see that they're beveled. They should be installed so that the wheels mount flush. |

looks like this is the right thread for me, im looking to get winter tires for my 4.8is. i have some questions. do i need new tires and rims? i live on long island. i made it through last years winter while pulling a trailer but i cant survive again. i previously had an x5 3.0 with stock tires and it worked great in the winter. but now with this truck i look like a new born deer trying to walk.

You can search for what others did but pretty much most people just buy another set of wheels (less than 20s) and buy winter tires to match. You can just pickup some used OEM wheels. I guess they would be 17" wheels since 18" tires cost way more and sizing might be a problem (IIRC). If u can pickup a set of used tires with the wheels, that would be perfect I would think. You dont need new but if you have money to burn, why not? LOL! |
do the winter tires need to be staggered in size?

No. You only need to get staggered tires if you are getting staggered wheels. You don't need staggered wheels for a winter setup but whatever floats your boat. :) |
I will have better pictures up later this week... but for now

I sort of like it. I have a feeling it would look better without the silver lip. Or is it just the pics doing that.
Either way, X looks good. |
The rims are completely black. The photo was taken on my iPhone in the sun so it looks like a silver lip.
|
i like them. good winter set up!
u end up going with spacers? |
