Totaled my x5, need advice

Hi everyone. I have long been lurking on these forums its a shame I have to start my first post with such horrible news. I had inherited a 2004 3.0 white x5. Needless to say the car was my baby. I had upgraded the stereo entirely (subwoofer headunit etc) was planning on getting 87's and tint when tragedy struck. I ended up rear ending a car and totaling it :( my generous insurance company gave me 17k for the vehicle. I am looking to get a new x5 but was wondering what I could expect to buy in that price range. I'm looking mainly for a 3.0 with less than 80k. My previous x5 was a stripper with almost no options. What should I look for in my next vehicle? Thankyou

Sorry to hear...if you're asking for feedback on what to get next, you're asking for a plethora of suggestions that may or may not apply to your current situation/lifestyle. Perhaps you should give more background...i.e. college student, single, married with kids...:dunno:

Now that is tragic> I am sorry to hear about the loss, she will be sorely missed.

ANYWAYS!!!
If you look around, you can find 01-05 for that amount of money. Mileage always varies, but most are under 80K. Of course, you can always step it up to a 4.4i To be honest with you, I've noticed there really is not a difference in price between a 3.0 and 4.4 except when new. Otherwise both are pretty much the same price wise.

Others will chime in soon.

Wow. Was that a truck you rear ended. How well did your x respond in the accident. Did the air bags go off, Were you injured at all. Also what color interior you got if its biege\tan maybe we could talk about your cargo cover.

Well, I am a college student. I hit an acura mdx or rdx cant forget i just remember the donut wheel shot out from under it upon impact (lol jap crap). Anyways i wasnt wearing a seat belt i slammed the breaks so hard my car went under his and when he drove his car off mine it wrecked shit up. I have a double din head unit with all the steering wheel controls adapters etc. its a pioneer 3300bt. I cant take any mirrors or anything insurance company owns it now. I also have misplaced my cargo cover but im going to look around for it.

My dad has offered to chip in a nice chunk of change to get me in an 07 or an 08 but we need to wait a while because of insurance costs.

Any reason why i should steer clear of an 07 or 08 3.0si ? Any reasons to stay e53? thanks

You weren't wearing a seat belt, what happened to you, like how did it feel? did airbag go off? how fast? (i kinda dont wear one either....)
