Don't fall for the incorrect thinking that the e53 requires battery registration just because it's production continued on during the same time that new gen BMWs were being produced. The e53 still falls in the old school generation which continues with the old CAN/Diagnostic/I/K/M/P communication busses. There isn't any communication setups for data flow between the alternator/battery/DME like the new gen BMWs have.

It's the new gen BMWs that have iDrive & the new MOST, LIN, BSD, etc communication bus systems that require battery registration.
