Tech info needed - replacing an engine

Hey guys,

I have a couple of technical questions I am hoping you can answer. The engine in my 2001 3.0 X5 died and I am installing a take out engine from another X5. I want to pull the pan and check the engine/rod bearings while I am in there, can anyone post the Plastigauge specs and the torque specs for the bearing caps? Also, are these stretch to yield bolts that will need to be replaced?

Is there any other maintenance I should do on the engine before installing? I am already planning to do a rear main seal and valve cover gasket along with the crankcase vent valve.

Thanks,

Andrew

I have a nive 4.8is that would bolt in nicely!! Lol

No, if you are pulling the rod and main caps I would jsut replace the bearings and call it a day.

Just replace leaky seals and your good to go...

How much are you asking for the 4.8is engine? Will it mate to the stick 5 speed in the X5? How about a wiring harness and DMU? ;)

What killed your motor?

My mom killed it but I suppose it is my fault for not doing the water pump sooner. She called me to tell me that steering got "hard" on her way home. Turns out the bearing let go on the pump causing a complete loss of cooling. I'm not sure how long it was driven in this state but I have oil in the coolant now. Could be just a head gasket but I am pretty sure she cracked the head and I got a decent deal on this take out motor so in it goes.
