loud engine

everything normal , no cel just a loud engine sound in the cabin ( the sound is normal from the outside). i can hear the engine working espcialy between 3000 and 6000 rpm . could it be an exhaust leak ? ( the sound would be a lot louder from the outside??!!) or a bad engine mount ( no vibration) ?

ps : it feels like im sitting in the engine bay

Isambard 11-18-2011 09:52 PM

it all depends on the kind of sound you're hearing :dunno:

I will try to post a sound clip tomorrow

the exhaust manifolds tend to warp on the v8's. most likely its your gaskets on the manifolds.

No cel ! O2 sensor should find the problem !? Maybe there is a leak after the cat

X5V8RULES 11-20-2011 11:03 AM

Does it cause bad mpg???

X5V8RULES 11-20-2011 12:37 PM

Forgot to say that the sound is more noticeable when the engine is warm. Is the exhaust manifold gasket easy to replace. (I have to lift the car to do the job?)

X5V8RULES 11-21-2011 01:58 AM

Any answer?

i think the answer here NO. oil leaks just bothers me because if ignore a part that is leaking with oil sooner or later you will regret ignoring it and you will be replacing some parts aside from the gasket.lol. anyway just post the sound clip mate so we can have a conclusion.

anyway for you to have an idea on prices of bmw engine parts here something that i can contribute for you.

Man, you are a funny guy))) I check your posts and know that I will crack up... what has O2 to do with a sound? you have your way of examening stuff, that you actually never check after all :)))
Exhaust manifold gaskets are hard to replace, not only lifting the car is neccesry, but have to remove most of the stuff from engine bay to get to it.
BTW you can hear it working from 3000-6000 because your engine works at that RMP.
Do you hear any weird sounds when it changes gears?

X5V8RULES 12-09-2011 04:33 AM

Sometimes i hear a turbo sound after a little acceleration.

Sound Clip?

my 06 3.0 I think it loud in the cabin also... before I purchased it, I actually drove another to see if it was normal and it was.. 2 issues I have with these 3.0 engines is they are loud in the cabin, and oil consumption which also is normal for these engines. My Ford explorer with 165K miles doesn't consume a drop .... (exaggerating) but I don't get check engine oil between oil changes like on the X5. These cars look great, drive great, handle beautifully, but the reliability and quality of parts I'm not impressed.

X5V8RULES 12-25-2011 02:52 PM

I always drive with window down. Yesterday i closed the window and i heard a weird sound coming from the back under acceleration. It is like there is a snake in the back . ( ffrrrrrrr sound) . What could it be?

X5V8RULES 12-25-2011 02:55 PM

I think there is a small leak in my exhaust and it is causing loud engine noise in cabin and this flattering sound!??

Take your car to an exhaust shop and have it check out ALREADY!!!!:stickpoke

xplayer007 12-26-2011 05:33 PM

Check your secondary air tube. The mount bracket broke on the passenger side bank and caused an exhaust leak on both sides. I thought problem was exhaust gaskets, but it was the tube not being seated properly. New tube, securely fastened, no noise, and no need to change exhaust gaskets.

X5V8RULES 12-27-2011 12:33 PM

I took it to the exhaust shop and they told me that everything good. Yes. i think that loud engine sound is caused by a bad gasket or tge secondary air tube. But im talking about the sound that is coming from the back during acceleration. (ffrrrrrrrrrr) i will try to post a video on youtube tomorow
