X5 4.4i - 1/4 mi time slips
 

I had completely forgotten about this, but figure some embers of the forum may find it interesting. A couple of years ago, I was checking off the stuff in my parenting handbook (you know, the one that comes with every new kid):smokin:

Anyway, one item on the checklist was the requirement for dad to teach son the various particulars of bracket racing, and get him comfy with doing so. He has since hauled about every car or truck we have to the track, but for this particular session we used the X5. Seemed like a great tool for that purpose - AWD, reasonably consistent, etc.

Reaction times and dialin, etc. Well, that was his job. Attached are 3 test 'n tune runs and one bracket (the lower left timeslip with the "win" pointer), whereby he was promptly eliminated. If memory serves, that'd be his old man in his pickup that eliminated his ass, too. :bustingup

Awesome although 60" time is pretty bad for a 4wd :nanana:.

Pfffftt. I was happy to see 4.4i with about 96K on the clock at the time runnin' around in low 15s on an August evening after driving to the track, ac on , etc. (this old man ain't skippin' the A/C just so the kid can have a cooler motor later on).

This wasn't about the result - it was about the journey.

And it was as consistent as I expected it would be - as temps dropped with each subsequent run, it got just a little quicker, and his breakout on the last run was the perfect learning tool. For a teenager that'd never lined up at the lights, you can't duplicate the environment on a video screen. Run what ya brung brackets are a diminishing occurrence in this country.

Back in HS I took my '69 goat to the local track. Had a friend take a pic.

There was a pic of me, with the tree green, still at the line. Talk about reaction time! :rofl:

And you know, IIRC, I still ran like a 14.5 sec 1/4 mile. :stickpoke

My reply was intended as more a fishing trip to see if anyone else had done this with an X5, how it went, etc.

Well, that, and to poke at the kid's breakout some more.:D
