Windshield washer pump issues...
 

Hi all,

So last week I noticed my windshield washer fluid light came on and sure enough I found a leak though one of the rear pumps. Today I replaced both the rear and front windshield pumps with new grommets as well. No more leak! Only problem is my rear windshield won't spray any fluid, even though I can clearly hear the pump working. I will pull out the grommet and recheck it, but again it was brand new so I don't think its clogged. I check the fuse and it's ok, haven't noticed any water leaking into the car yet. Any ideas? Also the headlight washers won't spray at all either (I tried the S mode etc.) but I can't tell if that pump needs to be replaced.

Could it be part #3 (strainer) that's clogged? Just got the feeling that there's a clog somewhere.

In that link he mentions the problem being "on the bottom of the pumps in the rear of the tank."

UPDATE: Thanks guys, but I did replace both of those grommets. Today I took it apart and put everything back together and voila! The rear windshield pump now works. I'm thinking it was a loose connection as the rear washer hose travels to the firewall (I pushed on it towards the firewall and it started working).

Anyways now on to the headlight washers. I didn't order a new grommet but I did clean the old one. When I hit the "S" button on the stalk I can feel the pump working, but no fluid comes out. I checked the fuse and obviously it's intact. Any ideas?

Update: I unplugged the hose from the pump to the headlight washers and sure enough washer fluid came gushing out. I feel that the fluid is going through the pump and it is churning but there is a lack of pressure. So I went ahead and ordered a new front pump and grommets, now up to $100 to get my damn washers all working!!

Though this isn't the problem you had the X3 is notorious for springing leaks in the washer fluid pumps that are on the washer tank under the hood. My 2006 drained all its fluid and then again after about week once filled. Replaced the pump that was leaking, and to help others that may come across this i created the following tutorial/photo document of the replacement:

You can fix it for about $35 in parts and save a ton of money over what the dealer would charge I'm sure.
