Any cheap h7 hid bulb alternatives?
Hello, can anyone suggest cheap h7 bulb alternatives rather than the $100 oem?
|
You have factory xenon?
|
I been using Philips BLUE VISION ,that give out a whiter colour that OE and a good match for factory xenon (if you have it).
|
Yes, I have factory Xenon..
I looked for the Philips Blue Vision on Ebay.. looks like they are coming out of Singapore and the UK.. but they say Xenon effect, so I guess they are not reall HID bulbs. I s anyone making reall HID's at a lower cost? |
H7 is halogen, as far as light output of halogen, people rave about Osram Nightbreaker series; but you can only get them from UK/overseas (check eBay for seller). I am ordering fog version H3 from UK seller (4-8 days shiiping) to see if all the hoopla is true.
Sorry, didn't realize you are looking for HID, yesy D2S for projector style headlamps or D2R for regular reflector style. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe an H7 for your vehicle would be the halogen bulb, which is the inner bulb.
For the HID/Xenon bulb, that should be type D2S. I purchased a set from Khaolty, LLC. They have excellent customer service and I've run their bulbs (branded as an unknown GE, not General Electric) for two years now without issue. Make sure you purchase 2, they don't come as a set. Yes, that's what I thought too, in fact I purchased those type bulbs in your link. Only to find out when I took out the original HID bulb that's it's an H7. My DRL lights, or the inner bulbs, are normal halogen which are H1's. I have 06 X5 with factory HID. Here is pic of my H7 HID bulb. Notice the burnt mark. http://mendesonline.com/h7bulb.jpg

You don't have xenon (HID) headlights then.
You might have projector lenses but have halogen headlights (H7 bulbs like in your pic). Just because you have projector lenses does not mean you have xenon (HID) headlights. Wow... ok learn something new everyday, the headlights looked exactly like HID's... ok good news for me these are cheap.
|
you can convert the halogens to hid for $65 for set though.
|
How does that work?? I would have guessed x hundreds. Sounds too good to be true.

^an aftermarket H7 HID kit and bulb adapters and you are all set.
|
Ok, I need to replace lenses that are clouded on the INSIDE and I want to upgrade to HID projectors at the same time, that's the difference I wasn't getting initially.

Quite a lot of reviews on UK magazines(check Autoexpress) rave about the Philips Blue vision bulbs, and in my experience ,they are absolutely right!Been using them for years on all my cars. They are long lasting as well. The bulbs give out a white light (4500 k) which on my X5s main beam , is a good match for the factory xenon dip beam. |
you can get an aftermarket H7 hid kit but if you plan on changing the headlight assembly as well than get a hid compatible angel light assembly and that will take D2S for low beam bulb. i replaced my non angel light oem projectors to angel light option DEPO set and used my oem hids but now i am upgrading to 75whid kit for more brightness

Wow the whole time I t thought I had HID :dunno: , since with the lenses it looks like an HID headlamp. I wound up purchasing the Sylvania Ultra's H7 bulbs locally, they look great. Thanks for the info.
