thanks powers yep im on top of that, however can you tell me if i have the upgraded crankcase breather, ive read plenty on what happens when they clog up, however as we dont have the damp weather to contend with, and i drive 50 km each way to work i thought i might escape these worries

i have a july 2005 built car and according to realoem the p/n is 11127799225, i read recently someone recommending fitting the one off the e70 11127794597

what are your thoughts, from realoem it seems i have an oil separator whereas the e70 doesnt , should i be changing this, or maybe i should just wait till next month till the turbo guy looks at it

Ewen

Realoem ,is sometimes confusing!Oil separator (E53)and breather(e70) are the same.
X5 from Dec2004 build should have the new design filter(1127799225),however ,we find that some cars upto May 2005,still have the old design! You need to check if you have the old sponge type filter or the new pastic design! If you have the new design, you can just buy the plastic filter and seals,(part nr.15.. 11127799366 on reaoem)about half the price. Its a job ou can do yourself in afew hours, and check and replace the air filter as well ,since you are at it!

Those V8 chipped ,dont do much against a 600 Nms+ chipped 3.0d!Just ask Huntertec,your countryman!He wil tell you:D

you know the only thing stopping me chipping mine is the fear of over stressing the auto trans, that said however if the turbo guy next year tells me to loose the rear mufflers and put some free,er breathing ones on, i will.

when i got it serviced last tuesday they couldn't replace the air filter, had to order one in, i had to go back thursday to get that done, and wow what a difference, i cant believe the difference in performance and economy, even though i dont rate the on board economy reading as accurate it has jumped an indicated 3 mpg just due to the filter.

im reasonably sure that i had it changed about a year ago, and its all city driving but apparently the mechanic said it was totally clogged.

i guess as a by product im also not getting any black smoke when i nail it to overtake,
it was probably running a little rich due to the clogged filter.

hmmmmmmmm

so all good, the turbo guy also has a dyno so while its there i,ll get him to check that all my ponies are still there and doing there job heheh
