Aux in to my basic X5

I have 2003 with simple stereo - just CD, no navigation.

How do I install Aux In? Which one to get? I found one article here but it was for car with Navigation

Thanks!

Does your 'basic' radio have a mode button?

katit 12-21-2011 04:27 PM

Yes, on very right on lighted display

Then what you'll need to do is remove the head unit and the aux cable plugs in to either the back of the head unit or there will be an extra "port" on the wiring harness where you will plug it in.

How to Remove Radio / Display / CD Player / Navigation from 2004 BMW X5 for Repair - YouTube

here is how to remove the radio.

Hey, once you get that radio (MID) out, look see if there is a way to remove it if the torx headed screw is gone. I can't get mine out because the screw is missing and I don't know how to trigger the release mechanism without the screw. A picture of what it all looks like would be great. Thanks.

different oem radio on x5 2002

has anyone ever tried installing a 2005 x5 radio into a x5 2002?

Just got it installed today. Instructions was good. There was no instructions on how to remove radio and how to remove glove box. But I have Bentley manual so that wasn't a problem.

In my case I already had this black plug in back of my radio. So, I had to remove it, open it and move pins from connector that came in into corresponding spots in my existing connector. That wasn't a big deal, instructions is good except that color of one wire was wrong. But if you just use common sense and move wires into corresponding positions - this is all thats needed.

Also, see pictures on how radio lock works. Torx screw need to be turned counterclockwise to release latch. I'm honestly not sure what to do if this screw missing...

Everything works but I do have pretty bad ground loop when I connect cable to my Android phone and also use charger powered from sigaret lighter at the same time.

Thanks for the pictures. I've got to try and figure this thing out.

I don't think that will work, and here's why. The earlier radio's don't have an AUX selection in the menu, I think the 2004 up radios do, it's a firmware issue. And if you buy a used 2004-up manufactured radio I believe it still won't work for some reason. Do a search for AUX cable and you will find a ton of data on this subject.

I actually did this install only a week ago (I had a nav unit though). I put the aux in the ashtray instead of glovebox, came up really good.
