Blowing sound even after i turn car off...

things were quiet for a while, but today as i was driving i heard a blowing noise coming on even after i turned off the heat. Turned off the car and it was still blowing i've checked and looked around. It seems that the blowing is coming from the top, right over the vents of the hood where the cabin filter is.
Anyone have any idea what this could be. :dunno:

FSU? They're common failures and cause the blower to do all sorts of strange things. (cheap part and easy DIY on the E39 anyway.)

:iagree:Final stage resistor that is behind the radio. Access it in about 10mins from the passenger side. Just drop the cover panel and remove the attached duct, you should be able to see a molex plug on the side of the air duct plenum with about 4-5 heavy gauge wires, this is the FSR, one torx screw and it pulls out, has a bunch of metal rods on the other side, whole thing fits in your hand. This will cause the fan to run until your battery is dead.

Sounds like a final stage resistor issue me. I have new ones available HERE and you can find a great DIY on replacing them HERE.

Does anyone have brand preference for these, or is it more a matter of "not the original OEM design"?

ECS Tuning 12-29-2011 03:34 PM

I ran an off brand on my E39. They are copies of the original, fit just like the oem ones, they are just a lot cheaper and if you don't mind having non genuine BMW parts on your car they are a great option.
