Driving without splash guard (with stiffening plate on)?
I have a very slow oil leak (5 drips per night) and would like to drive around without the splash guard (plastic cover under car in front - behind bumper and in front of stiffening plate. Is it o.k. to drive without the splash guard? (note: I live in San Diego, so there won't be any extreme temperatures or rain at least not this weekend). I think that by having the splash guard off I can check for the oil leak throughout the weekend without having to take off the splashguard or waiting for leak to drip off the splashguard. What do you think? Any concerns? Thank you!:dunno:

So I drove for a week with the plastic splash guard off (the stiffening plate was still on) without any problems - maybe some wind whistling. No rain or anything so that wasn't an issue.

You might stand the chance of a rock bouncing up into the drive belts but I have driven 6000 miles since refitting the engine with no probs.
Really should put it back on I suppose..... |
You'll most likely get a little extra road grime in the engine bay but typically there are no ill effects to leaving the splash guard off in nice weather.
