Gonna sell the X5...just bought a S4 Avant!

We decided to downsize and were looking at an A4 Avant and I came across a '06 S4 Avant with 52k miles, one middle aged, professional owner. All service records, clean body, no accidents...excellent condition. I couldn't resist. Did a PPI and no issues were found. It its was our stable the next day! I'm going to sell the X after the New Year. It's in great shape and running well so it, hopefully it won't be difficult to sell. Thanks to everyone on the forum. The information and knowledge I learned was invaluable. Good luck to all and Happy New Year!! Cheers!!

Awesome - congrats. Really nice vehicles and much better to drive than a X5 too. I had a 05 w/ manual and in retrospect wish I hadn't sold it. I had it 3 years and it was the best all around sedan I've owned, and just as fun to drive as a E39 M5 (yes, I had one of those too). Not quite as tossable as a E36 M3, but adding in the AWD factor for snow country driving and it was a very nice all-around sedan. In many ways I sure wish I still had mine!

Did you get an AT or stick? If manual, you may start thinking the M5 is redundant! ;)

Here is a pic of my old steed:

Visit Audizine forum - not as good as Xoutpost, but not bad and a good source of info on these cars.

BTW - I sold my X5 this year too but not to upsize. We needed a larger family car so picked up a new Mazda CX9. I'm happy with it so far - just nudged past 7K miles on it after first half year of ownership.

It's an automatic and the same color as the one you had. I paid a little more because of its overall condition and low miles but its well worth it because the car was taken care of. I'm getting too old to have 3 manual cars in the stable. My wife drives a stick very well but sometimes parking is a bear in the city and it's easier to just take the auto. The S handles well and is just a smoother ride than an M3. I still have the M5 and enjoy driving it. Bigger than a 3 series and it has 4 doors as well. Funny thing...I may have the opportunity to pick up a '01 E46 M3 cheap. It's got 51k miles, one owner, interior and exterior is a 9.5/10. Its mine if its available but I won't know for another month. Just a kid at heart I guess. :D
Happy New Year!

FYI, just did a quick search on manheim auction site for you (yes i have a log in and access to auctions) Those babies are auctioning for around 21k with that mileage. Hope that can help you negotiate.

Thanks I paid more but there aren't that many S4 Avants for sale and its a original owner, private party sale, not an auction. It's in excellent condition condition and I don't think the previous owner abused the car in any way. As used performance cars go, I'd rather spend more on a really good car than less on a "well broken in car" and have tons of issues. The price I paid was fair for the car in the condition it was in. Thanks again for your input!

Ahhh, you found a vehicle even more expensive to fix that a X5!!!

Congrats; great choice. S4 Avant is always on my short list of cars I'd own.

Congrats! I'm in the process of finding an S4 or A6 to replace the X5 soon myself!

I got $20K for mine with 93K miles on it almost 2 years ago! 2005. The buyer did not even negotiate on the price. There are so few S4 Avants and manuals are even rarer still.

Dolphin Gray is a nice color. You will enjoy it. It's sort of in-between a 3 and 5 series which is a nice size. M3 + M5 + S4 - now that would be quite the stable. I have had dreams off and on of an M5 + M3 stable, but never had both at the same time. Currently my toy and primary driver is a 07 Corvette and my sedan is a 740i. I have considered going to a E39 M5 and E36 M3 coupe or maybe even a E46 M3 at some point if I get tired of the vette.
