Transfer case NV 125 & LWX 500

2003 BMW 4.4 (LWX 500)

Car didn't move at all and towed. Local Indy shop told me that transfer case and front drive shaft need to be replaced.

Purchase remanufactured NV 125 & new drive shaft from famous online tansfer case store and gave it to the shop.

But mine still won't move at all and Indy told said NV 125 might be DOA..... might need another one. of course need to pay labor fee again.

The guy who sold me NV 125 said NV125 can be used with x5 98-2003.

I am not sure.... I purchase a worng one or DOA transfer case.

LWX 500 is not an NV 125

how did you end up resolving this, I have a similar issue and learned that the LWX 500 case is not the same as the NV 125 case and requires a different input shaft to engage the main drive on the NV 125 replacement case.

Apparently the LWX 500 cas was only used for a breif time in 2003

The indy shop said the NV125 MIGHT be DOA????? It's a chain driven direct drive transfer case. If they are unable to verify the functionability of the TC they have no business working on your truck!!!! There are way more "parts changers" shops and techs then "root cause, corrective action" ones. You need to get your X out of there, the place is full of "heads up there asses".

The Indy shop (they called theselves master technicans with 30 years exp and well-known shop in my area) made a mistake and blamed the TC.....

Also, the seller didn't know about LWX 500 well and sold NV125 without the shaft that connected to the transmission. That was the reason why my X5 didn't move at all..

I don't blame the seller because every one include Ebay sell NV125 without the shaft that connected to the transmission.

Now mine is now working well, now.

Edit
The seller's customer support was smooth so far. I will post more details later.
