Portable Nav systems and X5 glass???

Has anyone had any problem using portable nav systems in their X5 due to the type of glass used? I have an 06 X5 and am planning on buying a Garmin Nuvi 350.

I ask because I was told by the local toll road operator that we would have to have a bumper mounted transponder due to the type of windscreen used in the X5. Just wondering if this will cause problems for a nav system as well. :dunno:

IL tollway transponder inside windshield=ok with X5 windshield glass
NAVMAN ICN 510=ok with x5 windshield glass

no problem. You can also use a sand bag to mount the Nav. shown as the pic

on the second thought, a bumper mounted transponder? if its hidden, then that's a cool mod, no xtra clutter on the windshield! :)
but if its fixed, you cant use it on other cars

I just keep mine in the door pocket and hold it up to the windshield when I need to use it. Now that my home is back in the Detroit area, it's much less frequently then it used to be ;)

Its only a problem if you have comfort glass, which I don't think is an available option in the US, but it (comfort glass) is available as a replacement windshield.

How is the sand bag working out? Does it move much as you drive around? I'm looking for an alternative to windshield mount. Thanks.

You might want to consider some options, this is an old thread for portable nav attachments which you are looking for, courtesy of our friendly search feature :)

I'm well aware of that thread link (since I started it) and the friendly search feature as well :) Thanks for pointing it out, though :D

I was mainly interested in X5sti's experience of the bean bag with that Navman GPS.
