Which battery to choose
Well I searched and scoured this board and decided on the Autocraft Gold 49H8 from Advance Auto Parts. $105 after 20% discount and returned core- Not too shabby. As you can see it looks pretty darn close to the OEM battery. This fit is 100% OEM as well, no modification whatsoever. Thats why I wanted to share.

Nice. The only way I would replace an OEM battery with an OEM battery is if it's under warranty. Otherwise, it's just dumb when you can find non-BMW branded equivalent batteries for a fraction of the cost.

I have just picked up one of thsse beauties which is well specced for the demands of the E53's battery thirsty components!

I've been looking into batteries lately too and what I'm about to do is replace my battery with a monster, take that battery compartment right out all together and secure the new battery where my jack is/was. I can't get over how much power this vehicle consumes. I've gotta plug it in and charge it once every couple weeks since I don't drive far enough to the office everyday to keep it charged up. BMW's official solution for me was to buy a trickle charger. Does this sound normal??
I had three heated seats on at once with the heater going and the computer kicked the vehicle into safe/limp mode because I stepped on the gas to pass someone on the highway. My battery light keeps coming on also. What's up with this? |
Four days in and no problems to report. Battery for $105 is doing mighty fine..

Yeah, I put in a $90 bat from the 'zone a coupla years ago. I clipped a motorcycle battery to the car during the change-over to keep any settings that might become lost. (radio, equalizer, etc.)
My challenge is a 2 minute daily commute which means I gotta find the time to go further or sometimes I'll put a charger on during the weekend if I'm too busy to go anywhere just to drive. |
Battery above has made mine crank in ms rather than a week. Sorted out some timing problems too!!!
