Having worked in Plant Spartanburg since June 2002, I don't recall ever seeing angel eyes on the E53 until after facelift, which we started in April 2004. When I'm back at work next week, I'll ask around with engineering for your answer.

Yup, angel eyes came only after the facelift in 2004. Any pre-facelift models with angel eyes have been modified or are aftermarket units such as those by DEPO.

I'd bet someone who works in the factory where our X5s were built would have some great insights. ;)

So many questions.... What was/is the general feeling about the E53 and the manufacturing process as you guys had them rolling down the line? I'd guess it was good since you bought one. :D

Sorry for taking so long to get back to reply... I've been outta town visiting suppliers...

I remember feeling quite proud of the E53 while it was in production. It was the first of the X's, and we were being watched closely with how we performed. I bought mine from my in-laws, who bought it new in December 2002. They took very good care of it, and I've really enjoyed driving the car. I'm at the point now where typical things are needing service, but I'm actually enjoying the work. Sure, I could prolly drive a rice-burner and never do anything but put gas and oil in it, but what fun would that be? Besides, I'm half-German, and pride enters into it too...

How about this one. Can one reset adaptations for the transmission with the DIS?

Thanks.
