Front Right Speakers Not Working

:dunno: I have been without my front right speakers in my E53 for more than two years now and always thought that it was caused by a faulty central screen unit. Today I changed it for a new one as the pixels on the screen had begun to go.

The change over took about 15 minutes and was successful in that the new screen is perfect and all of the functions and presets were seamlessly transferred to the new unit. Did the front right speakers finally work? No such luck!

I wonder if anyone out there can shed some light on the possible problems together with the location of the parts that I need to check. Someone suggested today that it may be a faulty BM54 Radio Module, errrr what's that and where is it? I googled it and there were so many alternatives that I gave up. Any help that leads me to an eventual solution and working front right speakers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

do you know if the door panels have ever been off the car? On the E39 at least there's are two plugs that are the same shape in the door. One goes to the speaker and one goes to the window to facilitate the one touch up/down function.

It is almost certainly the BM54 unit at fault here. It is located in the trunk, under the spare wheel, in a compartment slightly further back (toward the rear of the vehicle) from the battery,

Thank for the quick responses. Yes, the door panels have been off but they have both been refitted by me and I am sure that the speaker cables are connected. The speakers are sceured in the doors and only one has ever been removed to test it when the problem first arose, the speaker works fine so on to the BM54.

Thank you for the pointer BB, any chance that anyone could describe what the part looks like so that I can locate it and secondly, is it simply a case of swapping it for a new one or can it be either bypassed or repaired?

New ones are expensive. I had mine repaired (I am based in the UK).

Found the BM54

:D Finally found the BM54! I believe this is the problem with the sound as nothing else make sense! For future reference, it was located in the boot (trunk), under the spare wheel, under the self levelling suspension control, under a plastic panel behind a wide screen driver unit that had to be removed first!

Thanks for the help guys, if you have the contact details for the repair centre BB, please let me know so I can get in touch with them.

Thanks!

Hi Mikem, I do the repairs on the BM54 units and my price for forum members is £110 + postage.

I use more powerful amps with a large heat sink to prevent the amps from ever failing again. Not only will it be more reliable, but the sound quality is improved. I have repaired and upgraded over 150 of these units now, without a problem.

The Sound secure guy is a twat working from an off license in the middle of no where, and he got so threatened by the fact that my repair/upgrade is much better than his, he made a fake account, bought something cheap off me, and left negative feedback. Ebay obviously put 2 and 2 together, and ip confirmed they were the same person.
