BMW scan tool GT1
Hey everyone I'm looking to buy a gt1 or the newest scanner that BMW uses. Does anyone know where the place to buy one and what they are using? Thanks
|
??? you don't know what's the purpose of using GT1 and you're planning to buy one? It's a very expensive tool if it's not aftermarket. For aftermarket GT1 (Chinese made and ship from China) it's <=$500 on eBay. Good luck.

I'm an ase GM master tech, I know what it does, BMW doesn't use the gt1 after 06

Oh sorry i misunderstood your question. They are using latest scanning tool called BMW ICOM BMW ISIS (Imaging and Scanner Interface Specification) ISID A+B+C.

Correction on the above:
The overall platform is now called ISPI (Integrated Service Process Initiative) ISIS is Integrated Services Information Server, not the abbreviation above. It is the central server for the workshop system (formerly called IBASE). The rest of the system includes: ICOM (Integrated Communication Optical Module) has A (OBD), B (MOST), C (20-Pin), and D (Motorrad) adapters for connecting to the system. ISID (Integrated Services Information Display) is the tablet device that contains the diagnosis program (ISTA-D, Integrated Services Techinical Application) and in the most recent ISPI platform versions (2.9) includes ISTA-P (programming) ISAP (Integrated Services Access Point) - remote access point to provide wireless connectivity to the ICOM (only works on ISTA-D, ISTA-P does not allow programming over WiFi) IMIB (Integrated Measurement Information Box) - provides oscilloscope and other measurement applications. Connects to the ICOM A or D ISSS - (Integrated Software Service Station) - contains and manages the program data for ISTA-P I wouldn't mess around with a GT1 head. Either get an OPS or ICOM clone. OPS clones are now in the same price range, and ICOMs are not much more expensive. |
I have a 2005 X5 4.8is so i wouldnt really need the newer tool. i dont do much work on other ppl's bmw's except mine. i use my tech 2 more then anything

If you're solely working on an iBus based vehicle, using a VAG-COM USB-OBD cable ($5 on ebay) with DIS/SSS would suffice for your needs. I used that solution for three years with my 2 E39s, and have programmed my 2005 4.8is (DME, EGS, and VTC) with it.

while on this subject, I'm looking to get a simple scan tool to measure specifically trans tc lock up percentage and then look at future vehicle codes if they should arise. I need to monitor realtime data. Any suggestions? My indy charges $90 per connection so something not over double that would be good.

Check out Diagnostic Software - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum
If you already have a laptop with serial port (in-built or add-on), you can have dealer-equivalent setup for less than $50 for your E53 X5. Take your time to peruse the above link - it's a gold mine as far as your query is concerned. |

New to the forum here . . . got a 2005 4.4 X5 and love it to death but it recently has givien me some problems, e.g., transmission slamming into gear on a "rolling stop" and starting issues . . . turns over with heavy gas smell but not starting (takes a few trys then it start and runs smooth as normal - no misfiring).
Looking to get a code scanner: 1) Peake Research or 2) Bavarian Technic Diagnostic Tool Any suggestions? Thanks |
