When I what changing brake pads I found...
I found out that my CV Axe boot was ripped and was Flinging Grease Everywhere!
How do I Replace it? I dont want to go to the Dealer if I dont have to. Also any ideas what causes this to happen? CV Axle - "Driveshaft" from the differential to the Hub/Wheel |
Hi, the rubber boots deteriorate from being exposed to the elements and break. There is no avoiding this. Also, it is unlikely that you found it shortly after it had happened. Therefore, it means you probably should replace the whole joint, not just re-pack and reseal the boot.
I will let others chime-in on the procedure. It is not overly complicated, but it is also not as easy as changing your oil. |

So A Little Background, I had installed Some brake pads that i bought online that were semi metallic in march of '11 and just recently changed them to ceramic because of the dust and noise. So I know for fact that in march the CV boots werent open and were infact closed. But now like i said its all jacked up lol Its not making any noise from the front end like a U-Joint going out, its just not greased like it should be.

Be more specific, is it the inner or outer boot, the inner boot is easy, I replaced both of my outer boots this past summer. Not hard, but like the other guy said, not as easy as changing your oil, boot kit only costs around $15 though. Do a search, lots of info here on the site.

Hi, what I meant was that unless you found the boots cracked within a day or so of them cracking, you've probably already damaged the bearings. But if you prefer, you can certainly just re-seal them and if you dont hear clicking or grinding then you'll be alright. :-)
