BMW X5 - Air Suspension Problem
 

Hi Everyone ...

About a month ago after electrical failure I discovered water in the battery box under the spare tyre in the boot. Ruined nearly all the modules (TV, Amp, Trafficmaster and Air-Suspension Module), which have been replaced and now working.

However, still having problems with my air suspension. The X5 is currently sitting on its bumper stops. I have tried several air-suspension modules but every time I connect it the 30amp (No87) blows and there is no action from the pump. Can't understand why it keeps blowing because it was working fine before the electrical failure. Can anyone help me with this issue PLEASE ....

There should be some short circuit.

Could water have gotten high enough to get into the air pump? Or into the wires that plug into it? Its under the spare...

Yes I agree it could possibly be shorting somewhere ... I just don't know on what? I tried have tried warming up and tapping the pump to see if it had seized but no luck ... every time I attach the module the fuse blows before the pump can do anything.

I don't think it would be possible for the pump to be affected by the water because it sits on top of some struts.

Its very annoying because my X is now undriveable. :(

Get a multimeter,set it to the circuit integrity position which is usually the one that makes "Beep".
Insert the one end into the output circuit contact(not the 12V supply bank one,the opposite) and the other to any ground (any grounded bolt head).
If you hear the "Beep",here you go,you have a short circuit.Get the pump disconnected and try again.

Why don't you disconnect the pump's electrical connector and retry?

Hi guys, just to let you know i have fixed the pump problem.

After following the advice i took out the pump and opened up the pump motor found some plastic had melted which was jamming it. After clearing most of the plastic with a screwdriver hooked it up to 12V car battery and it worked. Put it back in the car and now works fine. It was the pump blowing the fuse.

If BMW say you need a new pump check this before forking out the ££££s
