Here are the pictures of my accident yesterday...

So my question again is, judging by the damage on the car should have the airbags deployed... (oh ye completely forgot... HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL)

wow, that sucks.

Do you have a body shop to take it to? I know a good one in Manhasset if you want their info.

Scottie 12-24-2005 05:22 PM

well I always thought the air bags only deployed with a full frontal impact.

Correct. The angle of impact looks more like 45 degrees, so it didn't set off the airbag.

From Wikipedia

Quote:

Unlike crash tests into barriers, real-world crashes typically occur at angles, and the crash forces usually are not evenly distributed across the front of the vehicle. Consequently, the relative speed between a striking and struck vehicle required to deploy the air bag in a real-world crash can be much higher than an equivalent barrier crash.
Because air bag sensors measure deceleration, vehicle speed and damage are not good indicators of whether an air bag should have deployed.

Doesn't look like the impact, even if off degree, was hard enough to deploy. If you look at your bumper (not the cover) in the pics, it doesn't seem that effected. Looks almost like your headlights haven't even moved.

I thought the sensors are trigger by the front seats.

Sorry to see the damage you encountered. Least no one was hurt.
G/L with the outcome.
