Air Suspension - How do I know when it's bad?
My previous two SUVs where a 98 Chevy Blazer and 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My JGC was a little on the bouncy side as from what I've learned that's just how Jeeps are. I've had my 2004 4.8is for about a month or so and I've seen quite a few posts about the air suspension going bad in them. Other than the computer telling you, will the suspension ever go bad without you knowing. I ask because when I pull out of my driveway, there's a little bit of a curb to get to the street, and it when I go off the curb, there doesn't seem to be much bounce. I kinda feel like I did when I was in my Fiero....lol. So is it normal for the suspension to be that stiff? I was thinking that since it's kinda cold, and with it being air, it get's a bit dense and that is the cause.
It rises and lowers just fine from what I can tell. I just want to know the warning signs to look for if there are any. Thanks. |
You'll know..............

LOL....guess it'll be that obvious huh? I've seen a few price quotes on getting it fixed. Guess that depends on what parts fail huh? Guess I better clear off my credit card and set it aside.

Beyond obvious.
Infuriatingly obvious. Welcome to the club you didn't want to join obvious. And when you have to deal with it, if you aren't inclined to check things on your own, please do yourself a favor and make sure any shop you go to can justify parts replacement beyond "that's what the computer says." Just do some reading on that one.......... Good luck. Enjoy your car. (not sarcasm there) |
Yea our trucks are just that stiff. Surprisingly though, the ones without the 4 corner air suspension are much stiffer.

My '05 330I sport pkg has a softer ride then my '03 X5 4.4 sport pkg with rear air only.

You know your air suspension is bad when you still have money left in your wallet.
