Well I was going to see the 4.8 and the bastard sold it from under me. The good thing that came out of this, is when I told the 06 owner that I was no longer interested he asked if a lower price would help. I told him 14k and I'm in. He agreed so here goes nothing... wish me luck.

I'm biased but you can't get something for nothing. There are reasons the 4.8 costs more. However, when you go to sell you'll also get more too.

From all that you said I would go with the more known service record of the 4.8.

BTW .. take the looks of any car, especially from a dealer, with a grain of salt. Detailing a vehicle makes a BIG difference. Lots of times part of the prep to sell is also to restore. Like restore the leather seats to like new (reconditioning and coloring).

OOPS, I just saw he sold the 4.8.

Dude, get it inspected very well. You do not have service history. Don't rush. That is a huge price reduction on the phone. Without you even seeing it in person. Once you make the trip, you sort of get committed somewhat.

True, dat. better-half 'n me went to look at our Topaz, 3 hour drive..
there was pretty much No Possible Way we could have left Dancer there after driving with him a bit (even with the stunningly low gearing issues that I've whined about)..
Rear Window reg broke on the way home.

I agree with the inspection comment and I am a stickler for a thorough inspection. However, he lives 2 hours from the nearest dealership and there's 1 independent near him that wont answer my calls. He gave me a number to a guy who inspected it for him but whats the use of using the seller's guy? He has been very thorough and honest with me so far (seemingly at least). Hes an older ex military guy and seems to be a straight shooter. I'm still trying to get in touch with a mechanic up there. Anyone know one in Jacksonville, NC?? If not, Im familiar enough with cars that I can give it a once over but that doesn't replace the eyes of a professional. If it comes down to it, any advice for what to look for when self inspecting?

bagpype, I am surprised this car has grabbed you so tightly...and, I wonder why you can't find an X you like in the metro ATL area?

Well because it seems like a good deal and just about every one in the Atlanta area are either 1, way over priced 2, owned by a dealer, 3 from 2001 or 4, a combination of all three. Trust me, my eyes are still open and I am still looking. I haven't handed over a dollar yet.

Thought so, wasn't poking...hope you find what you want, and it isn't a geographical stretch.

Its all good brother. I didn't think you were giving me a hard time. I'm looking but I do quite fancy the one in NC for some reason. Its the color combo I like and has all the options that make it attractive to me.

I had the same issue finding my 4.8is. I'm in NYC, and got the car from Florida. So be ready to fly for what you want.
