DSP Workaround/Workthrough DIY
12 Attachment(s)
I just completed the DSP workaround because I'm installing an aftermarket headunit (Dynavin.) There are some pretty good DIY threads out there already, but I took a lot of pictures and think this one may be a little more noob-friendly. YMMV!

Cool! where did you move the Mid to?
|
I moved the MID into the glovebox like many have done. Just in case I have a need for it. I had to extend the MID wiring to get it there comfortably. The nice thing is that this is entirely reversable so when and if I sell the X I can basically remove the connectors and reinstall the stock config.
I just paid almost $900 for a radio and I'm sure it will be worth more pulling it than leaving it in to sell with the car so that's important to me..! Rodie |

good writeup though. Im about to do completely opposite of you. I m about to install dsp in my X. |
There was some cutting, but it was all on the top end of the bracket and I'm pretty sure everything will be secure when it (if it) goes back in and is screwed down (all screw mounting points are still in place. If not, I'll have to shim it but I don't think that will be necessary.
I guess I still have DSP -- you can turn on all the DSP stuff with the MID and the Dynavin passes a signal into it -- but I have it turned off entirely because it wasn't my thing. |
I wish this would work with a NAV equipt X5, I have no mid, just the nav.

One thing I have noticed -- not sure what it is (if someone knows, please post!)
When I first start the car, the new radio (Dynavin) plays fine, volume on Dynavin works fine, etc. However -- You can't turn it up as loud as you may like without topping out on volume or some distortion. However, if you get in and start the car, tune the volume down to silent and then turn up the volume somewhat on the MID, the starting volume for the Dynavin is higher and you can go much louder without topping out or getting distortion. I guess I am getting used to it, but if someone has an idea please let me know. Thanks, Rodie |
Looking for a BMW MK IV Nav computer. If anyone who upgraded their factory Navs want to sell their MK IV pm me.

Hey Rodie, how's your Dynavin working 6 months later? Why don't you post some pictures after the install.
