Trailer wiring and external connections

Mate you will have to get one in Australia unless you are ofay with basic electrical work. The americans use a 4 plug harness and we use a 7 plug harness. Easiest way would be to buy yourself a generic 7 pin flat hitch from SCA or equivalent and cut and splice into the current ECS kit wiring (removing the end plug from the trailer end of the harness and replacing it with the 7 pin from SCA

My plug has a 7 pin out lets witht he following connections:
1. Electric Brakes
2. RH Stop/Turn
3. Backup Lamps
4. LH Stop/Turn
5. Running Lamps
6. + (positive)
7. - (ground)

out of this i need to work out how to separate the stop/brake light signal from the turn signals...

There are two standard ways of wiring up trailer lights here in North America, either combined turn signals with the brake lights or separate. Usually they are combined.

You have two options.

You can rewire the trailer with new lights, and match it to your vehicle. Not a great idea if all Australian vehicles use a different standard, but it would work.

You can check the pin out connections on the trailer wiring harness (in the right rear luggage area, it is a 12 pin connector) and use a test light to see if some of the pins not being used work for your lights. You would need a new socket on the tow bar, and to wire it back up to the 12 pin plug.

I suppose the third way would be to get the correct wiring harness.

JCL only option 2 or 3 would work and I'd be going with option 3.

I'd get the proper connection Waffles otherwise you might spend a whole lot of time and money trying to get something that in the end doesn't work or is crappy at best. Have a look in the UK - they are comparable to USA prices and they run orange indicators

My personal opinion and the plug on my vehicle is the 13 pin OEM plug. That way you have the option. Otherwise go the 12N plug.

Auto Barn sell the 13Pin to 7 pin euro adaptor for $50 or you can get them online for a lot less.

Actually the trailer wiring connector is right behind the spare tire. I was wrong in my post. The 12 pin connector is for the PDC. The one that you are looking for is 12 pin connector that should only have 6 wires in it. Mine was right next to my spare tire.

I have already cut mine off to be spliced. I used my own 7 pin trailer connector and ran wires from that to be connected to the plug that is by the spare tire. The ground wire from the 7-pin connector I connected to chassis ground.

Do you have the other side of that connector? Do you know the part number or where to source it?
