Rear exhaust tailpipes 3.0d sport

Hi all

have any of you put tailpipes on your 3.0d (the ones that come out of the bumper)

the aftermarket exhausts seem expensive just to get the look of the 4.8

thanks in advance

no but i am seriously considering it, when you read and see all the stuff people do to free up the system on petrol 4 cylinder japanese turbo cars, you would think that there might be some gains from doing it to the 3.0d

there are a couple of clips on youtube of people who have, but i'm not sure if they did it for power or noise.

keep us posted on what you decide

What do you want to do?Just fit tailpipes on your existing silencers just for looks (dummies),or do you want to modify your standard silencers to make them work with a straight through design? If you want this ,you will need t remap your car for less back pressure.
You have threads here with both, just search 3.0D silencers.
The ones you see on tube that sound "loud and nice" basically have no rear silencers ,its a straight through design but are obviously mapped ,for such.

yes i've seen the "tips"

but the diesel exhausts come out under the bumper so these won't work unless you add more pipe

I was looking for clamp on so no fuss

I see what you mean.
I have done quite a few X5-3.0D exhaust now and I can tell you that there is no space there to bring a pipe from you outlet to come out over and out of the hole on the bumper!
Only way ,I could do it was to modify the outlet pipe,by cutting it and blocking on the back of the silencer and then open another outlet on the front of the silencer where the tailpipe can then be welded and fully working.

The easiest with less work is to add a pipe to the existing outlet pipes and fit tail pipes of your choice,a bit like this....(not my liking at all )

What 2nd pic is cra*??????The first pictures .with the exception of the last one ,are work in progress and before any welding! Also is extremely difficult to drill through the silencers as they are very hard stainless steel and we always break a few Cobalt drill bits when drilling. All pipes used were stainless steel and all professionally tig welded with stainless wire.
