Diagnosing Speed Sensor
 

Twice while driving, it felt like the brakes kicked in, dash lit up like an xmas tree and within a few seconds....all was cool again.

I was thinking speed sensor. I took it to Advance for them to read the codes and....

1. There were no codes to be read
2. Guy didn't know how to use his reader

I'm heavily leaning towards #2

I didn't want to pay $90 for the dealer to read it. I'm fine with giving them the business (and markup) to install it, just don't want the diagnostic fee. I can probably negotiate that.

Indy is probably the best option. I guess.

I guess the question is.....i should be able to get a code while the sensor is still functioning right? I doesn't need to be 100% to throw a code does it?

I'm actually thinking battery.

Not sure if my situation will relate: Car 01 4.4i

I had occasionaly Trifecta trips, it went away, but came every now and again.

What i noticed is my front driver brake would engage (I suppose the car thought i lost traction?) When i was at a low speed, it would sound like a loud scraping, but the wheel still moved)

Not sure if the dash lit up, since it was so long ago,, but my mech later said that it was a bad wheel sensor. I didn't ask to see if it was a code or just knowledge.

I really just need to know if it actually throws a code or if the diagnostic equipment checks various voltages.

GT1 probably not the battery as it's relatively new and the alt is taking care of my power while driving......now a loose ground is different, and I've thought about that.

There is a code, but a simple aftermarket reader reads engine codes and you need to see the DSC codes. Read this thread:
