Xenon bulb replacement

2002 X5 4.6is -- driver side Xenon bulb is out -- trying to replace it (and the passenger side) with Phillips D2S........BUT.......

On Driver side ---there are quite a few things that need to be removed --- like Oil filter housing, Power Steering filler, hoses to coolant expansion tank etc ---

Does anyone know how to do this ??

(Also risk of shock--but if the light switch is off & key is not in ignition-- it should be OK ? --- pulling out the two 50 amp LCM fuse is some work...)

PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

Ive done it on my 04 4.4i, its very fiddely but all i did was just remove the bolts holding up the power steering fluid reservior and nuged it out of the way and then i ptoceed to take of the plastic backing, its fiddely, but doable.

Oh ok--guess there is no easy way... 3 bolts hold the plastic base which in turn holds the power steering, oil filter housing & expansion tank

In the process with the age of the car -- I may crack some cheapo plastic..but still cheaper than the Stealer..

Oh and unbolt the headlight and move it forward a bit, it will make life easier

oh ok -- wiggle room i guess

Hello pezho405 --- got those bulbs replaced--- lots of gentle nudging -- on the driver's side - but didn't have to remove anything but the 3 bolts ---
So for anyone else thinking of going to a Stealer or a Shop ---- dont.
Difficulty level is 3 on a scale of 1-10, Torx 20 mainly---- just time consuming.

what i did...is took the reservoir holder 3 bolts...and took the bumper completely watch for the sensor parking wires and impact wires...then i took the headlight completely off since the headlight has a deep lip on the buttom which i couldnt just wiggle it off....

WOW !! that is some serious work there, pnoyako85, just to replace the bulbs... then again you have a newer car 2006 -- so guess it is different than my 2002.

pnoyako85 04-01-2012 09:04 PM

oh yes definitely @ Harley...i believe that 2002 you can just take the heads off without taking the bumper off....in my case 2006 x5 ..you gotta take the bumper off...which gave me more idea maybe this week..ill try to take the ambers off in the headlight..lol..
