Trans Failsafe with 4x4 light upon startup?
Searched and couldn't find any other member with this same problem. '06 4.8is with 63K on it. New battery was installed 1 month ago.
It's happened only twice - I go to start the car and put it in drive, feel a slight clunk and then I get the TRANS FAILSAFE message and the 4X4 light illuminated. I shut the car off for 10 seconds and restart, everything disappears and she drives perfect. Anybody else have this happen? Thanks for any info. |

e39 I'm having the same problem. Hopefully someone who has fixed this problem in the past can help us. |
Check your voltage while the car is running next time this happens. Sometimes it's due to a bad alternator. I'm experiencing this as we speak, and will be installing my second rebuilt alternator in as many days tomorrow. Hey, if it sucks doing it once... doing it twice is twice as sucky.

In my experience, it was the alternator. |
FYI I installed the (2nd) alternator today and all is well. Knock on wood. PS... sometimes even rebuilt alternators are junk... thank goodness for returns.

Trans Failsafe with 4x4 light upon startup?
2 Attachment(s)
Guys took the X5 to get the Battery and alternator checked and they checked out fine...but on the way home the Navigation and stereo flicked off and reset and the 4x4 error and ABS lights came on. I was a short distance from from our local repair man with a nice new code reader (snap on system that looks very expensive).
Need help with the codes: |
