Rivets, Help!?!

Ok question about rivets for installing the alum. running board.
In the instruction, it says to remove the expanding rivets and blind rivets. How do you do this? Do you need the rivet tool to do this?

And I went to napa store today looking for the rivet tool. Which one did you guys buy so it works for the expanding rivet and blind rivet? Is it this one?

Thanks!

you drill out the center of the rivet with a SMALL drill bit . the pieces then fall out.

* the one listed here below does NOT work. my mistake * use the green one for this mod, or a multiple use one that has extra tips

thanks, drex!

Hmm, so if i was to drill these pieces out, does this mean they are no longer useful? And does the kit that came with these, have enough pieces in them?

yes. if not, pick some up @ napa. very cheap. sizes depend on the ones you are replacing. the kit comes with them, although it helps to have extra.. just in case

Agree with drex except I purchased the plastic rivet gun on your original post, and I had no problems with it. Post some pictures when you are done!

I didn't have to remove the rear wheels when I did my boards. :dunno:

Get the plastic rivet gun and buy the OEM blind rivets from your local BMW dealer. They stock thousands of these. And if you don't want to drill, just use a nail to push the core in and use a pliers to pull the rivets out. I actually used a dremel tool and hammer to push the core in, then pull them out with pliers.
