Hard shifts. Getting dealer to apply SIB transmission reprograming

My 2001 X5 3.0 hard shift from 2 to 3rd gear during coasting or downhill. It shift fine shifting during acceleration or uphill. My indy transmission guy says it need a flash of TCM/ECM. How do I get the dealer to check and apply SIBs if it's applicable. I dont want to pay the dealers for an SIB which I should have gotten.

thanks.

Your dealer will do a search on your vehicle serial number and service history and advise if there are any SIBs that apply to your serial number range. The SIB will include the guidelines for whether BMW is paying for it or not. Given that you are seven years out of warranty (approximately) you should expect to pay, IMO.
